Stop the hate.
So, here goes day 2 of spilling my guts to the universe:) Had a great day today filled with a hoarse voice, sneezing, coughing, and loss of mental clarity! Logan had a great day filled with snot pretty much everywhere. But, we pulled it together enough to fit in a wonderful lunch with Uncle Eddie. Yummy food and wonderful company. I sat listening to Logan tell Eddie all about Soul Surfer (the movie) and how, "That girl got her arm bitted off by a shark and then she cut stuff up using her feets." He is too cute for words. After work, I headed off to Sam's club, which is my new best friend. Logan also loves it and we wandered about looking at everything all the while pretending that it had no affiliation with Wal-Mart:) Logan had no trouble with that because he remains convinced that it is just a Lowe's with food. He enjoyed pumpkin pie samples and so did Mommy! Surprisingly delicious might I add and only for about $7.00. My pies may not be completely homemade this year. After we wasted about an hour we headed home. Now I am settling in on the couch with my little man by my side. A yummy dinner in the tummy and just sort of ruminating over this week and all the craziness that it has held. By craziness I mean the election mostly. So, I have tried and tried not to get political with all this mess because most people do not share my views and unlike the remainder of the population, I didn't want to offend anyone. However, after reading and hearing and watching some of the most disturbing comments I have ever experienced I feel like I will explode if I don't express myself. So be prepared to be offended by me, LOL.
I am a Christian. I am a mother, a spouse, a caregiver, a friend. I am a democrat. I know that this may be shocking to most, and that most people around here in rural Alabama consider that being a Christian and a democrat are mutually exclusive. But, like a very few people here I know that is not the case. Let me explain. I believe that the message of Jesus was totally love driven. Hungry? He fed you. Homeless? There would be shelter. Lonely? He met the need. Sick? You were healed. Even less common needs were met. Doubting? Touch his scars. Sinner? Eat with him at his table. Gentile? The gospel is for you too. What is the most important thing? Love one another. How do we love? As Christ did. So I suppose that the bases for me believing in an attitude of meeting the needs of others begins in my scriptural belief that Christ led us by his very own example to do so. Wow I know! Christianity the basis for my being a Democrat. I know that this is astounding to most. Secondly, I believe that this country was founded by men seeking religious freedom. Freedom from persecution related to their beliefs and practices. I know that these men were religious and basically christian. I guess that I find it hard to believe that these same radical men would want all of us to persecute others for their beliefs or lifestyles now. Thirdly, I do not feel threatened spiritually by the choices of others. I know what I believe and I do not feel that the choices of others can change my salvation. So anyway. that is why I do not believe that our political affiliation can deem us to be Christians or not. Now I will explain what I think can bring our Christianity into question.
We are to be known by our works- our fruits- a city on a hill. Our peace and love should be desirable to others. What not just look great to each other? Are you kidding me?! I have to say folks that the behavior of many "Christian" people caused some of the worst feelings that I have ever had toward the collective "church". It caused me to question if I really knew most of these people the way I thought. I was baffled to find out that apparently all these people could "gang up" and use their "christian beliefs" as a platform to excuse their ridiculous, hateful behavior. Wow is all I could think. I wonder how many people we "Christians" offended online, in public places? While never pausing to do that most difficult task- taming our tongues. You know what. I think my Lord would have been as ashamed as I was and continue to be. I can't believe that people are walking around spewing out hate in the name of a loving Lord. You don't even have to believe in God to know that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. But I hope that we all confirmed to each other publicly what good Christian people we are. I hope we can all feel secure in our faith knowing that we offended people that we caused our own brother's and sister's to stumble because of our lack of composure and mob mentality. I hope that we can all shake our heads together at church knowing that we are not in the church house with anyone that likes gay people, any women that have aborted babies, anyone that needs government assistance, or you know anyone that could possibly have a different opinion other than those of our combined like-mindedness. Come on people. I thought that we believed in the new testament law. I thought we were taught to love our neighbor. I thought that we were taught to RESPECT our government (that is not the same as agreement btw) and I thought that we were to be the hands and feet of God in our world. Oh boy! Have we ever let him down.
And just for the record. I must speak to this being the end of our Christian values, to our country being lost forever and all that over dramatic crap. I believe that elections have been more important in history, like you know in the formative years of this nation, during the Great Depression (and if you think that this recession was anywhere near that scale you are crazy and need to go to history class). I believe that there have been harder times to be a Christian and raise families. Say like when the Christians were slaughtered and persecuted in the streets. When they had to flee to different countries and live in caves etc. I think that with all this freedom we have we are losing perspective. Beating others over the head with our Bibles is not the way to win their souls to Christ. Snubbing other Christians over their political affiliations is not the way to keep the ones you have. I know there are other crazy, secret, democratic Christians that would agree. I hope that I never raise my children to believe that this behavior is acceptable. Lord help me.
God Bless America folks. Don't place all your faith in Man. No one man can easily fix the mess we are still in. But as Christians we should all be praying for him whether we elected him or not.
In closing two quotes from songs that really speak to me.
"If we are the body, why aren't our arms reaching? If we are the body, why aren't our feet going? Why is his love not showing-When there is a way??
"Jesus, friend of sinners we have strayed so far away. We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing. Jesus, friend of sinners the truth's become so hard to see. The world is on their way to you but they are tripping over me. Always looking around but never looking up, I'm so double minded. A blank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided. Oh Jesus! Friend of sinners open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers. Let our hearts be lead by mercy. Help us reach with open hearts and open doors. Oh Jesus friend of sinners. Break our hearts for what breaks yours!"
PEACE OUT HOMIES:)
LIVE your life.
