For Daddy

So tomorrow is Father's day. I thought that it would be fitting to post a blog in honor of my Daddy tonight. He is a wonderful man and I am proud that he is mine. I wonder sometimes why we wait until our loved ones have passed away to tell everyone what they meant to us or how they impacted our lives. I feel like tonight I just want to honor my dad while he can still hear or read what he has meant and still means to me.

When I was a really small child, my dad meant a lot of things to me.
  • Sounds of the TV late at night drifting down the hallway when I woke up feeling alone.
  • Dirty work boots sitting side by side at the far end of the couch.
  • Caps
  • Navy work shirts with his name tag sewn on them.
  • golf clubs
  • leather double pronged work belts that kept me in line, lol
  • fishing poles and mounted bass fish
  • an arrowhead collection
  • an automatic transmission Nissan truck
  • golf carts
As a teen,
  • providing for our family and a surprise car for me on my birthday
  • golfing, fishing, hunting and his dogs
  • driving me to see the great outdoors where he hunted
  • catching me smoking a cigarette
  • finding ridiculous rap music in my car
  • all night talks in my room (cry fests) over broken hearts
  • helping me with the floats at homecoming
  • yelling out for me in Miss RHS (our local high school pageant)
  • taking me to a UA basketball game
  • classic rock
As a young adult,
  • moving me into my dorm
  • surprise lunches at Ricatoni's because he missed me and it was our favorite
  • talking to the banker with me and then signing with me for my new car
  • moving me out of my apartment in 100 degree heat when the air was out and there were only steep steps :(
  • pep talks during nursing school
  • buying me a new window AC unit when mine went out in my first home.
  • walking me down the aisle (although not happy- he did do it)
  • being at my college graduation
  • driving quickly and bringing mom to the hospital when I lost my baby and was in the ER/hospital for what seemed like forever
  • driving me 12+ hours in a snow storm to my grad school when I couldn't fly because of complications during my pregnancy
  • UA football games by his side- yelling til I was hoarse!
  • celebrating Aidyn Kate's miraculous birth
  • slipping me money for diapers and gas
  • always being a phone call away
  • giving me advice when my marriage was too hard to handle
Now I suppose I am just a plain adult and my dad means more and more to me everyday!
  • Celebrating Logan's birth and my grad school graduation
  • Going with me to buy the land for a new house
  • being a patient of mine and trusting me when he was sick
  • always being there for me no matter what and giving me sound advice
  • showing me what being a parent is all about
  • adoring my children
  • being a christian example
  • being fun and easy going
  • being newly tender hearted and more emotional as I grow up
  • being forgiving
My dad is one of a kind. I don't know anybody that doesn't love him or feel comfortable around him. He is  fun and wise. I love him so much. I am so glad that I have him as my daddy. I thank God that he is my daddy. Happy Father's day everyone!!!
